How LemonMoon Has Changed Since I Started It in My Kitchen
If you had told me a few years ago that a lotion I made in my kitchen would grow into what LemonMoon is today, I never would have believed you.
Like so many small businesses, LemonMoon didn’t start with a business plan.
It started with one homemade lotion.
It All Started with One Lemon Lotion
Years ago, I was looking for something that would actually help my eczema. I wanted something simple, deeply moisturizing, and made with ingredients I felt good about using every day.
So I started experimenting in my kitchen.
That very first batch of Lemon Lotion looked nothing like the lotion I make today.
The recipe has been refined over the years. I’ve learned so much about formulating, ingredients, and creating products that not only work well but also feel luxurious to use. Looking back at that first batch makes me smile because it reminds me just how far LemonMoon has come.
Even though the recipe has changed, the reason I made it hasn’t.
I wanted skincare that felt simple, nourishing, and made with care.
The Story Behind the Name LemonMoon
People often ask where the name LemonMoon came from.
The “Lemon” part was an easy choice. I’ve always loved the bright, fresh scent of lemon. It feels clean, happy, and full of sunshine, and it was the inspiration behind that very first lotion.
The “Moon” has a much more personal meaning.
Moon was our family dog, and she was with us through so many chapters of life. We lost her in November, and she will always be a part of our family. Naming my business after her means I get to carry a little piece of her with me every single day.
Every time I see the LemonMoon logo, I think of her.
Learning One Craft Show at a Time
When I signed up for my first craft show, I honestly had no idea what I was doing.
My displays have changed countless times over the years, and thankfully they’ve improved a lot!
Craft shows have become one of my favorite parts of owning LemonMoon. I love meeting customers, hearing which products have become their favorites, and getting to see familiar faces season after season.
Some of you have been shopping with me since those very first markets, and that still amazes me.
Growing a Business While Growing My Family
Since LemonMoon began, life has changed in so many ways.
Our family has grown, and so has my business.
I’ve packed orders during nap time, labeled products after bedtime, and poured soap while squeezing in work between everything that comes with raising kids.
Some seasons have been incredibly busy.
Some have required me to slow down.
I’ve learned to give myself grace through both.
The Storefront Chapter
One of the biggest milestones for LemonMoon was opening a storefront.
It had been a dream of mine for a long time, and seeing my products on shelves in my own space was something I’ll never forget.
That chapter taught me so much.
But as my family grew, so did my priorities.
Closing the storefront wasn’t giving up—it was choosing a business that fit the life I wanted to build. It gave me the flexibility to spend more time with my family, travel to craft shows, create new collections, and continue growing LemonMoon in a way that feels right for this season of life.
LemonMoon Today
Today, LemonMoon has grown far beyond that first jar of lotion.
Now you’ll find handmade soaps, sugar scrubs, body care, hydrating face serums, powdered clay masks, seasonal collections, and products inspired by the slower, simpler moments that make everyday life feel special.
While the products have grown and changed, the heart behind LemonMoon hasn’t.
I still believe skincare doesn’t have to be complicated.
I still believe simple ingredients can make beautiful products.
And I still hope that every bar of soap, every bottle of lotion, and every package that leaves my studio brings a small moment of joy to someone’s day.
